'Fantastic Beasts 2': Johnny Depp created his version of Grindelwald

Grindelwald is an important character who has been around in the “Harry Potter” universe for a very long time. However, it is only recently that the fans saw the character on screen in the “Fantastic Beasts” movie. Now, the character’s true nature will be revealed in the upcoming sequel.

In a recent interview, Johnny Depp spoke about the time he was cast as the dreaded villain, and how he went about developing his version of the character. In a wide ranging interview with Collider, Depp spoke about some his more iconic performances, and also teased details about Grindelwald.

Depp revealed that the casting of him as the villain came out of nowhere. Someone told him that Rowling would like to speak to him, and he spoke to her as well as some of the producers and director David Yates. The conversations were focussed on Grindelwald, and Depp revealed that he was blown away by one of these conversations.

Rowling has a clear picture of who Grindelwald is, but while speaking to Depp she said that she couldn’t wait to see what the actor would do with the character, which essentially meant that she was trusting him with coming up with a version that he feels is the most suitable.

Depp was “touched” by the level of trust that Rowling placed in him. The actor quickly got to work and started developing Grindelwald . Depp described his character as someone who believes his actions are for the greater good.

“He’s very dedicated to his beliefs. He’s not a fun character; he’s not funny,” Depp said about Grindelwald.

Grindelwald is a fascist, according to Depp, but the actor played the character as a person who is sensitive, concerned, but manipulative, and a very powerful wizard. The actor said that he loved playing the character and getting ready to reprise his role in the third instalment.
