'Fantastic Beasts': Eddie Redmayne wants Hagrid to return
Multiple characters from the “Harry Potter” world are being introduced in the upcoming “Fantastic Beats: The Crimes of Grindelwald” film. In a recent interview, Eddie Redmayne (Newt Scamander) talked about the one character he would personally like to see in one of the future movies.
The upcoming film will show the alchemist Nicolas Flamel (Brontis Jodorowsky) in the flesh, show the back story of Nagini (Claudia Kim), introduce a younger Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) and a young Professor McGonagall (Fiona Glascott), and give the fans an insight into the mind of the villain Grindelwald (Johnny Depp), who appeared as an old man in the “Harry Potter” movies. Now, Redmayne wants to add just one more name to this list.
In an interview with Cinemablend, Redmayne said that he is secretly hoping that Hagrid (Robbie Coltrane) is featured in one of the future “Fantastic Beasts” movies. The actor said that if he mentions this wish to writer JK Rowling enough times, then maybe a “mini Hagrid” will be seen in one of the films.
Fellow cast member Katherine Waterston (Tina Goldstein) alos likes the idea of bringing back Hagrid, who is a fan favourite character in the “Harry Potter” films. Waterston said that the character can be a kid in the timeline of the “Fantastic Beasts” films. Redmayne appeared to be unsure of the timeline, but felt confident it could work as Hagrid was “pretty old” in the films.
There is already some controversy with the timelines, as some fans are not happy about the introduction of Professor McGonagall. The problem with this character is that according to the “Harry potter” lore she wasn’t even born yet in the “Fantastic Beasts” timeline.
Was Hagrid alive during the “Fantastic Beasts” films timeline? It remains to be seen what other characters from the previous movies will be introduced in the future, and what new connections will be built with the “Harry Potter” films.
