Fast & Furious 6 Catapults to New Highs; Superbowl Half-time Trailer [Watch it Here]
Not Just Your Typical Popcorn Movie Anymore
"We've graduated to a whole new level"
With the latest addition to the Fast & Furious franchise, we are certainly entering new territory when Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) needs the help of Dom Toretto (Vin Diesel) and the rest of his gang to take down a crew of highly coordinated drivers who are performing heists (sounds familiar?). Apparently, you need a crew of highly coordinated drivers who used to perform heists to shut down a crew of highly coordinated drivers who are performing heists (Ah, there it is! Hobbs needs to make a deal with the devil, then).
Who would have thought that a movie catering to a niche of car enthusiasts would reach its sixth installment? But the franchise has evolved from being about flashy cars and juvenile races into a true action adventure experience.
The fifth movie, Fast Five, has thus far been the most successful, both critically and financially, having earned a worldwide total of more than $600 million in the box office. This time around, Fast & Furious 6 is looking to tell a deeper story, without forgetting its action roots. No need to worry though, there will be car chases and explosions galore! (and TANKS!)
The fights between Hobbs and Dom were some of the best scenes in Fast Five. Now that they're on the same side, we spy some serious wrestling moves at 0:37 of the clip, where it looks like The Rock is teaching Vin Diesel some of his WWE ways. That move is straight out of a video game! Tekken TAG anyone?
This weekend's Super Bowl trailer spot also featured some new scenes and previewed the return of one previously-thought-of-as-dead character. It was hinted at in the end of Fast Five, and the trailer confirms, that Letty (Michelle Rodriguez) will resurface and actually play a big role in this storyline.
Fast & Furious 6 also stars Paul Walker, along with Tyrese Gibson, Chris "Ludacris" Bridges, Jordana Brewster, and Gina Carano, and is scheduled for a June 6 release in Australia.
