Fast & Furious 6 was highly criticised for being "just a show off" of blasting cars, tanks and crashing planes. Stunts were said to be typical of an action-packed film of its kind, if not for that famous Vin Diesel's stunt where he saved Michelle Rodriguez in mid-air.

According to review by USA Today's Claudia Puig, the movie is "all commotion, clashes and crashes all the time... Here's a movie that could easily have-been dialogue free. And probably would have been better for it. But the volume is a key element, especially for those who find the sound of revved up engines."

But, Fast & Furious 6 surprised critics as the film ranked the fourth-highest opening in the entire record for a Memorial Day Weekend with its $120 million just for its weekend sales.

Fast & Furious 6, after all, is more than just show-off, blast and fast cars. It will be ridiculous to assume that that $120 million weekend sales were all comprised of car-loving audience.

The secret to Fast & Furious 6's success was the film's use of a universal feeling that all people around the world share - the love for the family.

The movie was able to touch the hearts of women, mothers and daughters amidst the cars, planes and tanks milieu that men, fathers and brothers rave for. At the very core of the movie, it transcends the majority of all market. Instead of being just a date movie or guy-group movie exclusive to a specific market, Fast & Furious 6, became a movie where the whole family of three members and up can go to.

Star Jordana Brewster was also amazed about the turn of events, "I still can't believe what's happened. But it seemed like once we started focusing on family, we got even bigger."

Fast & Furious 6 obviously was keenly conceptualised to appeal to that emotional need of everyone to belong to a family. As the movie's tagline goes, "You don't turn your back on family even when they turn their backs on you.

As a result, Fast & Furious 6 was ranked as the No. 1 movie in 59 cinemas worldwide. With this latest success, fans eagerly await for its 2014 franchise.

Director Justin Lin said, "It's easy to downplay movies like Fast & Furious 6, but that's not fair, to say it's just fast cars and hot people. If it were that easy, every studio would do it. I think we hit upon a culture."

Actress Michelle Rodriguez agreed to what the director pointed out saying that "the multi-ethnic cast broke the stereotypes people were used to seeing in the movies. These weren't a bunch of Hispanic and Asian kids selling drugs or being pimps. We were just trying to show a diverse community, not sell it overseas."

Actor Paul Walker admitted that he doubted the family element at first, "I'll admit, I was wrong about how much people connected. I asked, Do people still care about this?"

Meanwhile, lead actor Vin Diesel talked about the next franchise set to be launch in 2014 "We don't look at doing just the next film. We look two or three movies down the road and make sure the family element is consistent. That's what gives the story its emotional integrity. That's what keeps us consistent with the story, with the fans. That doesn't happen a lot in Hollywood."
