‘Fast & Furious 7’ Director James Wan Eyed For 'Shazam'
"Fast and Furious 7" director James Wan is reportedly in talks to helm another of DC's upcoming movie adaptation, "Shazam." This speculation was specially derived from a recent article from Deadline, where New Line Cinema president/COO Toby Emmerich revealed what's in store for the director in terms of new films.
"James will make an important movie for New Line and Warner Bros or DC, and that is definitely part of the plan, and a reason for bringing him into the family. He's the only overall director with a deal here, because we see him as a class of one," he said.
His statements supposedly hinted that James Wan could be directing "Shazam." After all, according to Denofgeek, "Shazam" is the only DC movie lined up under New Line Cinema. The rest of the DC movies slated for 2016 up until 2020 are under Warner Bros. Batman-News have all the details and titles of the said films. Additionally, Movieweb claims the director will be focusing on sci-fi, horror and budget-films under New Line so it would reportedly be safe to assume that "Shazam" is one of them.
However, few details have been revealed about the movie let alone on the casting/directing process. So far, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has been confirmed to star in the film. The actor has been cast for the title role. Having James Wan as possible director for "Shazam" would reunite him with the star, whom he's worked with in "Fast and Furious 7."
Furthermore, Movieweb claims the "or" in Toby Emmerich's statements could mean a different movie for the director. James Wan could reportedly also be directing one of the Warner Bros. and DC Comics standalone "Justice League" spinoffs or one of the "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" films. Apparently, this information is still pending confirmation from Warner Bros. or New Line Cinema.
However, what's for certain is that James Wan is set to direct "Conjuring 2." Speaking to Deadline about the sequel, Wan claimed he can't wait to "tell the story of the next case-file of Ed & Lorraine Warren." He added that it was reportedly during the editing process of "Fast & Furious 7" that his brain "creatively rejuvenated" ideas for the horror film.
