'Fast & Furious' Franchise To Come To An End , Justin Lin To Make A Come Back To Direct Multi-Part Finale--Report
Director Justin Lin is reportedly going to make a comeback with "Fast & Furious 8." After helming four instalments of the films of the franchise , the director handed over the director's hat to James Wan for "Furious 7." However, now it seems that he is all set to make a come back for the last installment of the films in the franchise.
According to Slash Film, Lin is expected to don the director's hat for "Fast & Furious 8" and for another film after that, which is said to be the last film of "Fast & Furious" series. He is expected to soon negotiate a multi-film deal with Universal Pictures, according to reports.
"I expect Lin and Universal to begin talking again about him directing a multi-part production that will lead to multiple movies shot together and will wave the checkered flag on the Fast & Furious franchise," Mike Fleming Jr. of Deadline is reporting.
Lin took a break from "Fast & Furious" to pursue other projects. He was roped in by Universal to direct "Bourne Legacy" sequel starring Jeremy Renner as Aaron Cross. However, the project has now been postponed. During his time away from the franchise, Lin directed the pilot for new series "Scorpion." He may also helm a few episodes of "True Detective's" second season. Lin has directed four of the seven "Fast & Furious'" instalments, including 2003's "The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift," "2009's Fast & Furious," "2011's Fast Five," and "2013's Fast & Furious 6."
Meanwhile, it is being reported that James Wan is unlikely to return after "Furious 7," as he is all set to direct "The Conjuring's" sequel. Speaking about directing Paul Walker's last film, Wan said that it is the "hardest film he has made" till date, according to Collider.
The filming of "Furious 7" was not easy, as the lead actor Walker passed away in a tragic car accident on Nov. 30, 2013. Film's production was shut down for a few months and later the script was tweaked to accommodate Brian O' Connor's (Paul Walker) exit. Walker's brothers Cody and Caleb Walker were roped in to complete his remaining scenes. "Furious 7" is now set to release in April 2015. The first trailer of the film was released on Nov. 1.
