Father, children found dead at Port Lincoln
Police have found dead bodies of a man and two children from a car that drove off Port Lincoln’s Brennan Wharf at high speed on Monday morning.
Police confirmed that the car seems to be travelling deliberately at a high speed. SA Police’s Water Operations Section divers undertook an underwater search. They found the bodies of the three people at around 12:30 p.m. believed to have been known to each other.
Police said the bodies belonged to Damien Little and his two small children, Hunter, 1, and Koda, 4. The man, believed to be in his 30s, drove a white Ford station wagon with his children inside from the end of the wharf at around 6.00 a.m.
The car sank up to 30 metres deep. One of the family members was troubled after hearing about the tragic incident. She avoided giving detailed comments. Major Crime Investigation Branch, forensic experts and the Major Crash Investigation Unit are assisting the Port Lincoln Crime Investigation Branch in handling the case.
Port Lincoln Mayor Bruce Green said the incident was a tragedy for the entire community. “Over the next few days as this unfolds on how it happened and who the people were, the sadness and the knowledge will be hurtful in the community,” NewsCorp quoted the mayor as saying. “We are a rural city and have close connection within the community ... (it) is something we don’t understand and it obviously makes us very sad.”
Senior Constable Mick Abbott confirmed that the car dove into the water just after 6:00 a.m. Detective Paul Yeomans said that the bodies have been identified. He said that the incident was not being treated as an accident. The detective said that this was a tragic incident where a father was found dead with two of his small children. This will likely affect the normal life of the people of Port Lincoln.
