Roger Federer battled his way to reach his eighth consecutive semi-final at the Australian Open, as he defeated his fellow Swiss Stanislas Wawrinka in a match on Rod Laver Arena Tuesday.

The Agence France Presse noted that the second seed Ferrer played an outstanding game beating ninth seed Wawrinka to a 6-1, 6-3, 6-3 victory for 1 hour and 47 mins.

“I definitely needed good performance and I’ve obviously played Stan many times in practice and in matches and there were no real secrets out there for us,” Federer said according to AFP, adding that he’s pleased with his play against teammate Wawrinka.

The world’s No.2 ace is now headed to his semi-final on Thursday against the winner in the fight between Novak Djokovic of Serbia and Tomas Berdvch of Czech Republic.

The Swiss ace has played against Djokovic in previous major tournaments and he was already defeated by third seed Djokovic in 2008 Australian Open.

"It's not the only two times he beat me," Federer said of the Serbian ace, as quoted by AFP. "He's a quality player who plays really offensive, he takes it to the opponent”.

Federer said he enjoys playing against Djokovic, emphasizing looking forward to the ‘shot-making they create’ at the match.

The second seed Swiss currently holds the male record 16 Grand Slam singles titles and the victory over Wawrinka, according to AFP has extended his winning streak to 15 matches in his record 59th match win at the Australian Open.
