Feds appoint aviation ombudsman to deal with aircraft noise issues
Australia is set to welcome its first independent aviation ombudsman as the federal government has appointed Ron Brent for the job.
Mr Brent is expected to hear complaints of aircraft noise mostly coming from residents under flight paths, who long lamented of inactions, as he prepare to monitor and review grievances and inquiries lodged before Air Services Australia.
His office is also tasked to submit recommendations to improve the situation caused by the noise problem as Transport Minister Anthony Albanese explained that the government's move points to its policy of providing better accountability for the community.
Mr Albanese said that the aircraft noise ombudsman would ensure that the community has the confidence to approach the Air Services on its concerns on new flight plans and "the aircraft noise ombudsman will be there to make sure that there's improved consultation with communities."
Mr Brent had previously worked as deputy Commonwealth ombudsman in 2003 and his extensive experience should come handy once he officially assumes the new position in September.
