FIA Revises Ban On Radio And Pit Board Communication
Whisky Brand Johnnie Walker Becomes Sponsor of Formula 1
The governing body of Formula1 sport, the FIA announced hours ahead of the Singapore Grand Prix that rules regarding communication about car performance through radio and pit board will be relaxed.
Information on driver's perfomance such as speeds in corners as compared to another driver, gear selection compared with another driver, rate of braking as compared to another driver, application of brakes in general, use of DRS as compared to another driver, will not be allowed to be transmitted from the pit wall to the driver.
The FIA had last week issued a directive regulating radio and pit board communication from pit-to-car about both car and driver's performance. According to the official website of F1 www.formula1.com, the list was revised after the FIA met team managers and decided to postpone communication about car performance until next season due to the involved complexity of introducing the ban at such short notice and the potential of varying effects on all the teams.
The current leader of the Driver's Championship, Mercedes' Nico Rosberg was excited about the new regulations. Speaking to the media in Singapore, he noted that it was a big change for the drivers and from now on, they would be much on their own.
In fact, it will be interesting for fans to see the fight that will unfold in Singapore between Rosberg and his teammate, Lewis Hamilton, who is 22 points behind him in the title hunt.
Singapore is one of the toughest races of the year with 23 corners more than any other Grand Prix circuit. The temperatures are expected to hit between 29 and 30 degrees across the weekend and there is also a strong chance of showers. The race will comprise of 61 laps of 5.065-kilometre (3.147-mile) circuit, or 308.828 kms (191.905 miles) in all.
In another development, Johnnie Walker, the world's leading Scotch whisky, announced a new partnership with the Formula One group on Thursday that would result in the brand becoming the official whisky of the sport. Also present on the occasion was Mika Hakkinen, a two-time Formula 1 World Champion and Johnnie Walker Global Responsible Drinking Ambassador.
