Indonesia became the first Asian country to host the annual 3x3 U-18 World championship event. Indonesia will be fielding a team both on the men's and women's side, but the competition ahead is absolutely daunting given the quality of players that will participate in the event.

"I'm sure there were many countries willing to host the event, but FIBA trusted Indonesia to hold the tournament. It is a very big honor for us," Erick Thorir, president of the Southeast Asian Basketball Association, said on Wednesday at a press conference via Jakarta Globe.

"Only a handful of countries dominate in basketball presently, but in a three-on-three, every country has a chance to compete, including Indonesia. I hope the tournament will help improve player's performances and ready them to compete in next year's Nanjing Youth Olympic Games," He added.

The Philippines, who emerged as the victor in last summer's 3x3 U-18 Asian Championship, is scheduled to face arch rival Chinese Taipei at 4:20 p.m and then follow it up with a duel against Guatemala and Andorra. The United States will open their campaign against Guatemala, Chinese Taipei and China.
