After five days of preliminary round competition, the FIBA Americas championship enters the crucial stage on Thursday with all eight remaining teams gunning for a place in the final four of the FIBA World Cup qualifier for North & South America in Caracas, Venezuela.

Puerto Rico comes into the second round as the undefeated team, dominating its first three assignments (Brazil, Canada and Uruguay) before surviving a scare against Jamaica 88-82 in the final game of Group A.

However, the road to the title for the Puerto Rican will be a lot harder than before as they take on the four qualifiers (Argentina, Mexico, Venezuela & Dominican Republic) from Group B.

Argentina, who topped its group after racking up three wins in four games, is now starting to play cohesively as new Indiana Pacers forward Luis Scola began to find his groove, especially in the last game where he dropped 25 points against Mexico 98-78.

Puerto Rico-Argentina match will serve as the main piece of Thursday's second round schedule, which also features games between Dominican Republic & Jamaica, Mexico & Canada, and Venezuela & Uruguay.
