New York Knicks' international scout Gary Boyson is currently in Manila to evaluate the performance of several NBA veterans and prospects competing in this year's FIBA Asia Championship.

Aside from China's Yi Jianlian and Iran's Hamed Haddadi, Boyson also had some encouraging words on some of the members of the Philippines National team.

The FIBA Asia Championship 2013 has not only served as a battleground to determine the continent's best basketball nation, but it's a stage for prospects to display their true ability before the eyes of several NBA scouts.

In an interview with the SportsWriter blogger Francis T.J Ochoa, Boyson explained he's currently scouting several players who could fill a spot on the Knicks' roster for this season and their future campaigns.

"Actually, I'm here to evaluate all the players in the tournament," Boyson told Ochoa during the first quarterfinal match between Iran and Jordan on Friday. "It's no secret there are players here with NBA experience who have no contracts yet."

"We have a spot or two [open at New York] probably. We're just trying to evaluate players all over the world," added Boyson.

Boyson added that he's going to bring Haddadi to New York after the tournament for a private workout, but he also admitted that he's intrigued by several members of the Philippine national team.

"It's about maybe putting someone on our database now and see how they project over the years, how they improve and how they're progressing," said Boyson, who has 15 years of experience as an NBA scout.

Philippines' forward Japeth Aguilar, who actually worked out for several NBA teams before, could have another chance to make a big splash in the NBA with a strong performance he's putting up throughout the tourney.
