Indiana Pacers shooting guard and national team member, Paul George, suffered a freak injury - breaking his leg - during the USA Basketball Showcase at the Thomas and Mack Center on Friday, Aug. 1 (U.S. time).
The exhibition game was put to a halt on the 9-minute-and-33-second mark after the high-leaping 24-year-old broke, what seemed to be, the tibia and fibula of his lower right extremity.
As of writing, there has yet to be any sort of information regarding the severity of the injury.
"We don't know," said USA Basketball Chairman Jerry Colangelo.
"Everyone saw what we saw. That's for the medical team to see."
George looked to be locked for a spot in the 12-man roster that will compete in the upcoming FIBA World Cup of Basketball that will tip off on Aug. 30, and coach Mike Krzyzewski will have to momentarily take a step back before reassessing his options.
"Everything's on hold, and it should be," said coach K.
"It would be so inappropriate for us to talk about anything else when there is an injury like this."
