Spain has been nothing but dominant in the preliminary round of the competition after booking a clean 3-0 slate. After edging the United States 5-4 in the opener, Spain steamrolled to a 5-2 win over United Arab Emirates and 4-2 victory over host nation Tahiti.

Meanwhile, El Salvador recovered well from a 4-1 drubbing at the hands of Argentina, winning their next two games against Netherlands 5-1 and a 7-6 squeaker against Solomon Islands.

Prediction

There's no quitting in this El Salvador team, but Spain is too much for them to contain. Spain might have an edge on talent too, but the kind of play they have been showing as a team makes them a favorite to win the gold.

Russia vs. Iran

Russia came into the fray as the defending champion of the tournament. Like Spain, the Russians have preserved their winning record in Group D, winning against Japan 4-1, Cote d'Voire 5-2 and Paraguay 4-3 via shootout.

On the other hand, Iran advanced to the quarterfinal thanks to their head-to-head advantage over Ukraine and Senegal, who all finished the group stages with a 2-1 slate.

Prediction

Upsets are good, but Russia is a different kind of monster. After all, they aren't World Champions for nothing. As for Iran, they showed they can compete in high-level beach soccer tourney by making it into the knockout stages. At the end, Russia will move on to the semis with ease.
