The Australian National Football Team has moved closer towards clinching a spot in the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil after coming through with a dominant 4-0 victory over Jordan in Tuesday's highly crucial qualifying match at Docklands Stadium.

The Aussies stepped up big in perhaps the most important game of their FIFA World Cup qualification campaign, coming up with solid plays on both ends of the pitch to overwhelm a very good Jordanian squad.

The Socceroos took control of the ballgame from the get-go behind aggressive plays from their attacking unit spearheaded by veteran midfielder Mark Bresciano, midfielder Robbie Kruse and skipper Tim Cahill. Their effort finally paid off in the 15th minute as Bresciano scored off a nifty ball from Kruse for his 13th international goal of his career.

But the biggest story of the night was the Socceroos' scoring onslaught in the second half. Cahill (61'), Kruse (76') and Lucas Neill (84') each nailed a goal in the half to help the Socceroos turn a precarious one-goal lead at the break into complete blowout.

With Tuesday's victory, the Aussies need only a draw in their final qualifier match against Iran to book their place in Brazil for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. However, a loss could relegate the Socceroos to a winner-take-all playoff with the third-place finisher in Group A for the fifth and last World Cup spot in the AFC qualifier.
