It was Europe against the Americas on day 2 of the knockout stage of the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil with the Netherlands going up against Mexico and Greece playing against Costa Rica. In the end, neither continent dominated as the Netherlands defeated Mexico but Costa Rica took out Greece.

The Netherlands took the victory in stoppage time through a penalty shot after Arjen Robben was brought down in the box. Mexico led right from the beginning of the first half until Wesley Sneijder defeated the defense with a well-placed volley in the 88th minute to equalise.

The Mexicans were completely heartbroken and are exiting the World Cup in the round of 16 for the sixth straight time since 1990.
