Ian Somerhalder announced over the weekend to 'Vampire Diaries' fans that he is in talks with the production team of "Fifty Shades of Grey," but a co-producer of the film says he is likely mistaken. What's the truth?

"I am going to Los Angeles [...] next week to meet with all those guys," Somerhalder said.

However, Dana Brunetti, a co-producer of the film adaptation of the EL James hit book series, has reiterated on Twitter that a director must first be employed before casting for Fifty Shades could begin.

"Cast of a film is usually decided on with a directors input," Brunetti tweeted merely 12 hours ago.

In response to fans' queries (also on Twitter), Brunetti ventured on a guess that perhaps Somerhalder was "lied to" by some people.

In a tweet to @FallenAngel_CVD and @fiftysogfans, Brunetti said, "(M)aybe he was lied to by someone? None the less, we are only meeting with writers."

Somerhalder has not concealed his interest in playing the role of Christian Grey. He even reached out to "American Psycho" author Bret Ellis, who had also expressed interest in writing the film's screenplay.

"I know Ian Somerhalder and how kinky he can be and yes, he's probably Christian Grey in Fifty Shades of Grey, and he will go all-out for it," Ellis previously said on Twitter.

Who to believe?

In this case, Brunetti is the more reliable source of information. As the film's co-producer, it is not likely that a meeting with a prospective actor would go under Brunetti's radar.

Now, who could be "all those guys" that Somerhalder was referring to?

The other producer, Michael de Luca, also tweeted in response to a query by @CakesByRosanna.

"Haven't met, nothing scheduled, just dealing with prospective writers right now, thanks for being interested!" de Luca tweeted.
