"Fifty Shades of Grey" can be Fifty Shades of Flop if no action is taken by the production house soon. Here are the reasons why.

The movie, which is based on a BDSM novel by EL James by the same name, has been in news for all the wrong reasons ever since it was announced. First because of the star cast it chose where "Sons of Anarchy" actor Charlie Hunnam was chosen for the role of enigmatic character Christian Grey and a very dapper Dakota Johnson was chosen to play the vulnerable yet determined Anastasia Steele. No one accepted the casting choice.

Social media blasted the choice of Hunnam and Johnson calling them the least-suited actors to play the role. Fans of Fifty Shades novel also went to great lengths to file a petition on change.org to remove Charlie Hunnam from the role. But the production house did not pay heed to any of this and instead said that "there are many factors" that lead to the choice of actors.

Just when the fans were beginning to accept the movie's star cast, the bomb dropped. Charlie Hunnam quit the role of Christian Grey and opted out of the movie citing reasons he was "too busy with his TV schedule." But there are reports by the gossip site Hollywood Life which says that the ex-Christian Grey quit voluntarily because he thought the movie will flop and it will impact his successful career.

"Charlie got cold feet," an industry source told Hollywood Life. "He wanted to get out of the movie because he was feeling like it would be his version of Showgirls, and he didn't want to be remembered for that."

Universal Pictures have reportedly paid author E. L. James $4 million for the film rights to "Fifty Shades of Grey" and set August 1, 2014 s the movie's release date. The production house went on a spree for the movie casting but the roles were turned down by many actors including Robert Pattinson ( who was the first choice by the author EL James too), Garrett Hedlund and Ryal Gosling too.

For the female lead the names of Felicity Jones, Alicia Vikander, Imogen Poots and Elizabeth Olsen were all circulated but none of them were chosen. The book has the strongest fan following and the fans had somehow chosen Alexis Bledel and Matt Bomer to play Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey!

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hunnam, who also is a writer was not convinced about the script of the movie and had suggested his ideas to re-script it. But he had clashes with the creative team including director Sam Taylor-Johnson.

With Hunnam out, time is running out and the production house not only has the daunting task to find a character who is willing to play the Christian Grey role but also someone who is strong enough to stay despite the controversy and media attention. Charlie's exit has also meant that there will be production delays as the movie has not started filming yet and it could add up to the extra costs too.

It is not very clear as to how many of the 70 million copies sold worldwide of the novel will translate into purchased tickets for Universal as the movie is going to have a NC-17 certification or "suitable for mature" audience for its explicit sex scenes. The rating will become a stumbling block for the success as it will immediately reduce the number of people going to watch the movie in a theatre.
