Fifty Shades of Grey: 5 Reasons Why Emma Watson Should Not Be Anastasia Steele
"Fifty Shades of Grey" film producers took to Twitter last week to put an end to circulating rumours that Emma Watson has been tapped to play Anastasia Steele. Now Watson herself said she has not even read the book yet.
"All of the rumors on #FiftyShades are just that - rumors. No one has been cast in any role. We have to get a writer and director first," producer Dana Brunetti (@DanaBrunetti) tweeted.
For her part, Watson seemed irate over reports linking her to the role of Ana Steele. Even some friends and family members have asked her about such reports.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Watson said: "The thing is I'm not going to go out there every time someone attaches me to a film to say no or release a statement."
"I haven't read the book, I haven't a read a script, nothing," the former Hermione Granger of Harry Potter stressed.
Here are 5 Reasons why Emma Watson better say 'nay' to Anastasia Steele (should the role be offered to her at all):
1. Personality type. Watson may be a great actress but it is hard to imagine her playing the role of a young woman who is as man-focused, gullible and boring-unless-she's-in-a-playroom as Ana Steele.
2. Better suited to more mature, more meaningful roles. Imagine Watson punctuating every sentence with, "Oh my!" Wouldn't it be such a waste of talent?
3. Nudity best left to the imagination -- for now. There is a time for everything, and anytime soon is not a good time to see Hermione Granger in explicit sex scenes. A couple more years, maybe.
4. Not another serial film. Surely, she would not want to be under so much restriction again. She cropped her hair after the Harry Potter saga is over. It was something she had waited so long to do. She had been Hermione for several years. A transition to Ana Steele is such a demotion.
5. Busy. Watson has The Perks of Being a Wallflower (showing this fall). She has also just finished Sofia Coppola's The Bling Ring. On top of that, she is currently busy with Darren Aronofsky's Noah.
Clearly, Emma Watson has got her plate full. "Fifty Shades" producers will have to look for someone else to play the role of Miss Steele.
