Fans of "Fifty Shades of Grey" have picked their own favorite actors to portray the role of Christian Grey with the "Social Network" team.

Ian Somerhalder, Ryan Gosling, Matt Bomer and Robert Pattinson are among the top choices for the role. Pattinson, however, has been dropped after it has been announced that he and fellow Twilight star Kristen Stewart will not be playing in the Twilight-inspired fiction.

Between Somerhalder and Gosling, the former has a larger following, thanks to his role as Damon Salvatore in the teen drama "The Vampire Diaries."

Looking for Christian Grey in the eyes

Looking at the two actors' eyes, Somerhalder has an edge over Gosling for his too-much-of-a-gentleman appeal. Somerhalder's eyes are sexier and more enchanting.

But someone can hold his own against Somerhalder's deep-gazing eyes: Matt Bomer. As a con-man in "White Collar," Bomer is always dapper and dazzling as a seductive FBI consultant.

Somerhalder has more younger fans, while Bomer has already publicly came out as gay. But if things are down to how these two actors can make a woman swoon by just looking at them, one of them would be a very convincing Christian Grey.

Why look in the eyes?

E.L. James spent ten chapters of "Sweet Valley High" moments before getting to the erotic part in her fiction. In those chapters, the sexual tension is built up between the heroine Anastasia Steele and her love interest, Christian Grey. For the build up to succeed, there has to be an intense exchange of flirty looks and coded smiles. "Grey" actors have to be really sexy in the eyes for those moments to work.

Ian Somerhalder or Matt Bomer?

Both Ian Somerhalder and Matt Bomer are very sweet eye candies. Both of them have the intense gaze that can unhook many things with just one look. But who has the overall edge? In the campus paper interview that would bring the lead characters together, Anastasia would ask Christian if he were gay. He would be upset, and his response would send chills down Ana's spine. This is a powerful moment that would set the tone of the pair's next interactions.
