Fifty Shades of Grey movie casting bets are still up among fans of the sensational erotic trilogy by author E.L. James. If the choice comes down to Arrow superhero Stephen Amell and Vampire Diaries hunk Ian Somerhalder, which actor is more likely to get the prized Christian Grey role?

Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele are the erotic pair in the Fifty Shades series. He is a dashing, sex bondage enthusiast and billionaire who falls for her innocent charm. She is a graduating college student who is a sex virgin at the beginning of the series. Alexis Bledel and Emma Watson have both been named by fans as their Ana. Somerhalder's girlfriend Nina Dobrev is also on many fans' list. (Watson, however, has hinted on Twitter she won't take such a role.)

For Christian Grey, the names of Amell and Somerhalder are joined by Matt Bomer (White Collar) and Henry Cavill (Superman). As far as the fiction creator is concerned, however, her Mr Grey is someone not likely to be named by fans. (Who could he be?)

Ms James is not the primary decision-maker in who get the Grey role. Still, fans believe her insight would weigh much to the Fifty Shades producers at Universal Pictures and Focus Features. This is why James's Twitter account is inundated with messages from followers of Amell, Somerhalder, and the rest of the Grey favorites.

How can the producers choose between Amell and Somerhalder (if it comes to that)? One possible factor would be the actors' roles in their respective TV series.

Amell as Oliver Queen is a superhero villain who embodies both Robin Hood and Batman. Somerhalder as Damon Salvatore is a lovestruck vampire. Queen is a mighty billionaire; Salvatore is filthy rich in years. (He was born in 1842.) Queen kills bad guys; Salvatore is a vampire. In other words, both characters carry a vibe of darkness that some women adore. The difference lies in the followers of each series.

Amell's Arrow is followed by comic geeks, teens, moms, dads, people of all ages. The Vampire Diaries has a strong teeny bopper flavor. Could Amell win out based on character portrayal and nature of TV series?
