'Fifty Shades of Grey' Movie Casting: Henry Cavill Speaks Up on Christian Grey Role [PHOTOS]
Henry Cavill has been constantly eyed for the role of Christian Grey in the upcoming film adaptation of "Fifty Shades of Grey." After months of keeping mum on the role, Cavill has finally spoken up on the role. What did the "Man of Steel" have to say about the S&M role?
E.L. James best-selling erotica novel, "Fifty Shades of Grey" continues to be the buzz of Hollywood. With the film out by summer of 2014, avid readers and fans of the series are highly anticipating the official cast of the movie. However, it may be a while before fans may hear about the news of an official cast given a director still hasn't been found.
Currently, Focus Features and Universal Studios are on the look-out for a director while scriptwriter, Kelly Marcel is busy working on the script. This of course has led fans to speculate on the cast for the film. Countless celebrities have been named as potentials for the role of Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele.
In the lead for the role of Anastasia Steele is Emilia Clarke of "Game of Thrones." Other strong contenders for the role include Alexis Bledel of "Gilmore Girls" and Felicity Jones of "Like Crazy." A few other notable names are Eve Hewson, Allison Williams and Lucy Hale.
On the other hand, in the lead for the role of Christian Grey is "Vampire Diaries'" Ian Somerhalder. Two other strong contenders are Matt Bomer of "White Collar" and Henry Cavill of "Man of Steel." While Ian had expressed interest in the role, Matt had clearly stated he had wanted nothing to do with the film. What about Henry Cavill?
"Put it this way, I've not read a script, spoken to a producer or a director," said Cavill.
Like Somerhalder, Cavill isn't a stranger to the BDSM-themed novels.
"Not exactly chaste writing, is it," stated Cavill, adding, "I've always preferred the implied sex scene anyway, because having it spelled out always seems a bit tacky. Sex is so readily available to us in every form of media now, so it's no longer that exciting on screen."
Yet, fans may consider the film exciting if Cavill would star as Christian in the film.
