Fifty Shades of Grey Movie Director: Channing Tatum or Mark Wahlberg?
"Fifty Shades of Grey" movie producers Mike De Luca and Dana Brunetti have yet to officially name a director for the book series' film adaptation. Does Channing Tatum or Mark Wahlberg have a chance at the director's chair?
Universal Pictures and Focus Films, the two outfits that won the rights to E.L. James' erotic novel already have a screenplay writer - Kelly Marcel. She has reportedly started working on the film's script this month. Typically, a director would be hired soon to move forward to casting, which is the most awaited part of the fans at this time.

PolicyMic is one of the web sites which conducted an online poll to find out the fans' favorite director for the 'Fifty Shades' movie. Among those in the site's Top 5 are Magic Mike's Channing Tatum (No. 4) and Ted's Mark Wahlberg (No. 2). Leading the tally is Angelina Jolie, who had previously been rumoured to be part of the film's cast.
Two other directors made it to the Top 5 of the poll: Steven Soderbergh of Magic Mike (No. 3) and Gary Marshall at No. 5).
Tatum was among the early fan favorites to play the lead role of Christian Grey. He has reportedly said he would only agree to do the project if his wife Jenna Dewan-Tatum would snag the role of Grey's sex submissive, Anastasia Steele. Months later, the couple announced they were pregnant, which effectively means neither one of them could star in the movie. Looking back, Tatum has expressed interest in directing films. Could Fifty Shades be his directorial debut?
Wahlberg, on the other hand, has openly expressed his interest in Fifty Shades - but not as an actor. He wanted to produce the film.
"We were very close to getting the rights, we were talking with the writer before she had an agent," Wahlberg told Access Hollywood in June. "I just knew that it was going to be a phenomenon, whether I thought it was good, bad or indifferent. It was definitely going to be one of those things that would create a huge buzz."
If the choice is down to Tatum and Wahlberg for the director's role in Fifty Shades, who do you think has the greater promise?
