Rising Filipina pop star Charice Pempengco, who is making waves internationally with her song 'Pyramid' featuring Iyaz, will officially join the cast of the musical dramedy, 'Glee'.

Her representative, Grace Mendoza, confirms the news. "Yes, it's true, Charice will soon join 'Glee'", said Mendoza.

Pempengco is set to be a part of the season 2 cast which will start somewhere towards the end of the year. According to Entertainment Weekly, the 18-year-old singer will play a foreign exchange student with massive vocal chops who will give Rachel Berry, the show's lead character played to a T by Lea Michele, some much-needed, and much-deserved, competition.

She also announced the news on her verified Twitter account: "It's official. I'm on Glee (next season) but story behind it. When [the rumour] came out, it wasn't true. But then after that; I tried to audition. And [I] made it!!! Let's Party!!!!"

Pempengco was obviously referring to premature rumours that surfaced last month indicating that she would join the cast but the singer and her mother Raquel were quick to deny those reports.

The 5-feet-tall Pempengco gained attention when a video of her in a singing contest made its rounds on YouTube. She was then invited to be a guest singer on a South Korean talent show called 'Star King', where she then performed the Dreamgirls' hit, 'And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going'.

Later, television hosts Ellen DeGeneres and Oprah Winfrey invited the little girl with the big voice to sing on their respective shows where the rest, they say, is history.

Her international debut album, entitled 'Charice', was released in May this year and debuted at number eight on the Billboard 200 album charts. This makes her the first Asian and only Filipino to reach the top 10.
