After the blockbuster hit that was "Star Trek" back in 2009, everyone was just begging for a sequel. And after news hit that J.J. Abrams was preparing for the said sequel to be released in 2013, fans might be a bit disappointed that Abrams will be shooting in 2D.

"We're shooting on film, 2D, and then we'll do a good high-end conversion like the Harry Potter movie,' Abrams told MTV. 'Luckily, with our release date now we have the months needed to do it right because if you rush it, it never looks good," reported Total Film about the supposed filming with 2D.

Many have seen the effects of rushed post-production 3D rendering in different films such as "Clash of the Titans." However, when done correctly, it can mix in easily with the 2D shots to create a seamless 3D movie, like in "TRON: Legacy" and "Harry Potter: The Deathly Hallows pt. 2."

Although it is a bit distressing for some 3D fans, it is somehow encouraging to know that Abrams developed a certain liking for IMAX.

"IMAX is my favourite format. I'm a huge fan," revealed Abrams, as reported by Total Film.

J.J. Abrams is a film and television producer, writer, and director, among many other things. He is best known for his tv series such as "Alias" and "Lost," as well as films like "Armageddon" in 1998, "Mission: Impossible III" in 2006, and "Cloverfield" in 2008.

His most recent project as producer is the M:I sequel, "Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol," with Tom Cruise reprising his role as Ethan Hunt, costarring Paula Patton, Simon Pegg from the previous M:I sequel, and Jeremy Renner known for his leading role in "The Hurt Locker."

After Leonard Nimoy starred as Spock Prime in the first movie, rumors are going around that William Shatner will also have a cameo in the sequel. However, studio insiders have confirmed that no one from the original cast is going to make any cameo.

Fans should not lose hope with this sequel though, as there is that big chance that this movie is boldly going where no man has gone before.
