The Final Fantasy world was rocked just a few days ago when Square Enix released a new gameplay footage that explored the vast world of the game. While the footage shown by art director Yusuke Naora and world map director Yasuyuki Matsunami was mostly in Japanese, a new stream with English subtitles have been made available which can be seen here at Kotaku.com.

The gameplay footage showed important features such as the following:

  • The four protagonists are composed of Noctis, Prompto, Gladiolus and Ignis.
  • Characters can drive vehicles and rest in motels and diners whenever they want.
  • Whatever vastness is shown in the screen can be traversed by foot.
  • The character movement depends on the direction he takes such as there is a different motion for climbing a hill than going down the path.
  • The developers wanted to capture realism to simulate all movements including racing up a mountain or trekking a path and designating a ground-fix team, which actually climbed a mountain to ascertain the feel of the activity.
  • Some of the monsters that can be fought by the characters are 20 meters long and are modeled after dinosaurs such as the brontosaurus.
  • The game will also feature magitek armour, which first came out in Final Fantasy VI.
  • The demo also showed monsters such as Galuras, Nagas and Goblins which can be fought to level up.
  • Chocobos will be featured in the game.

After the demonstration, the two men who were involved way back to the development of Final Fantasy VII took time to answer some fan questions. The most interesting answer was when a fan inquired on the total expected play time to which the panelists answered that it would be about 40 hours if only the main story is followed; however, if the player decides to do some side quests and dungeon sieges, the play time will be longer than that.

Square Enix is developing the game for both Playstation 4 and Xbox One consoles and will be available by March 2015 when the pack in demo launches for Final Fantasy Type-0 HD. The game is a road-trip kind of adventure that is being told in the perspective of a young boy (similar to Cloud in Final Fantasy VII). Director Hajima Tabata revealed through ComputerandVideoGames.com that the game is made in such a way that it is "balanced to ideally satisfy those fans who like traditional Final Fantasy storytelling so they can feel like they're following an epic story."
