Final list of Singapore election candidates 2015
It is the first time since Singapore’s independence in 1965 when all parliamentary seats are being fought for. Here are the list of candidates running for the general elections on Sep. 11.
SMC
- For the Bukit Batok Single Member Constituency, or SMC, David Ong from the People’s Action Party (PAP), Sadasivam Veriyah from Singapore Democratic Party (SDP) and Samir Salim Neji (independent candidate) are challenging the single-member constituency. Ong has served as a MP for and advisor to Jurong Group Representation Constituency and acted as a chairman of the Jurong Town Council since 2011. Veriyah is an ex-teacher who has served in several positions of Ayer Rajah Constituency under former PAP MP Tan Cheng Bock. Neji is participating the election for the first time.
- PAP contender Teo Ho Pin and SDP member Khung Wai Yeen are fighting for the Bukit Panjang SMC seat. Yeen is participating in the elections for the first time.
- For Fengshan SMC, the contenders are Cheryl Chan of PAP and Dennis Tan Lip Fong of Worker’s Party. This is the first time to participate in the general elections for both.
- PAP member Amy Khor Lean Suan and Singapore People’s Party’s Ravi Philemon will be standing from Hong Kah North SMC. Khor is currently the senior minister of State in the Ministry of Health, while Philemon is standing in the elections for the first time.
- Hougang SMC candidates are PAP’s Lee Hong Chuang, a first timer, and Worker’s Party’s Png Eng Huat. Opposition member Huat is a businessman holding the position of an MP since May 2012 when it won the 2012 Hougang by-election.
- From MacPherson SMC, PAP’s Tin Pei Ling, Worker’s Party’s Bernard Chen Jiaxi and National Solidarity Party’s Cheo Chai Chen will be participating. Pei Ling is the youngest MP in the Marine Parade Group Representation Constituency and is the in-charge of the McPherson ward. Jiaxi is the first time participatant in the general elections 2015. Chen is a businessman who has served as the MP of Nee Soon Central constituency from 1991 to 1997 when he belonged to the SDP.
- PAP’s Lim Biow Chuan and Singapore’s People’s Party’s Jeanette Ching-Aruldoss will be fighting for Mountbatten SMC seats. Chuan became MP from 2006 general elections. Aruldoss is a lawyer by profession.
- For Pioneer SMC, PAP’s Cedric Foo Chee Keng and National Solidarity Party’s Elvin Ong will participate. Keng is a corporate executive, while this will be Ong's first time as a candidate in the general election.
- PAP’s Sitoh Yih Pin and Singapore People’s Party’s Lina Chiam are participating from Potong Pasir SMC.
- Punggol East SMC is being represented by PAP’s Charles Chong and Worker’s Party’s Lee Li Lian in the 2015 general elections of Singapore.
- Radin Mass SMC will be represented by PAP’s Sam Tan, Reform Party’s Kumar Appavoo and independent candidate Han Hui Hui. Both Appavoo and Hui Hui are participating in the elections for the first time.
- From Sengkang West SMC, PAP’s Lam Pin Min and Worker’s Party’s Koh Choong Yong will be representing their parties. Pin Min is a doctor by profession and is currently the minister of State in the Health Ministry and had been a MP since 2006.
- PAP’s Grace Fu and Singapore Democratic Party Jaslyn Go will represent Yuhua SMC. Go is the first-timer candidate in elections.
GRC
- Choa Chu Kang Group Representation Constituencies, or GRC, with 4 seats will be represented by Gan Kim Yong, Low Yen Ling, Zaqy Mohamad, Yee Chia Hsing from PAP; and Goh Meng Seng, Syafarin Sarif, Lee Tze Shih and Low Wai Choo from People’s Power Party. Among these Hsing, Sarif and Choo are the first time electoral candidates.
- PAP’s Lim Swee Say, Lee Yi Shyan, Mohamad Maliki Osman and Jessica Tan, and Worker’s Party’s Gerald Giam Yean Song, Daniel Goh Pei Siong, Mohamed Fairoz Shariff and Leon Parera will be the representatives for East Coast GRC having 4 seats.
- Holland-Bukit Timah GRC with 4 seats will have PAP’s Vivian Balakrishnan, Christopher de Souza, Liang Eng Hwa and Sim Ann, and Singapore’s Democratic Party’s Chee Soon Juan, Paul Tambyah, Chong Wai Fung, Sidek Mallek as representatives. Mallek, Wai and Tambyah are the first-time electoral candidates.
- PAP’s Yaacob Ibrahim, Heng Chee How, Denise Phua and Lily Neo; and Worker’s Party’s Redzwan Hafidz, Adrian Sim Tian Hock, L Somasundaram, Frieda Chan Sio Phing will contest Jalan Besar GRC's four seats. Hafidz and Hock are the first-time candidates.
- From Marsiling-Yew Tee GRC with 4 seats, PAP’s Lawrence Wong, Alex Yam, Halimah Yacob and Ong Teng Koon; and Singapore Democratic Party’s John Tan, Bryan Lim Boon Heng, Damanhuri Abas and Wong Souk Yee will contest the elections. Tan, Heng and Abas are the first-time electoral candidates in Singapore.
- West Coast GRC with 4 seats will have reprentatives like S Iswaran, Lim Hng Kiang, Patrick Tay, Foo Mee Har from PAP and Kenneth Jeyaretnam, Andy Zhu, Darren Soh and Noraini Yunus from Reform Party. Zhu, Soh and Yunus are participating in the general elections for the first time.
- Aljunied GRC with 5 seats will be represented by PAP’s Yeo Guat Kwang, Chua Eng Leong, Victor Lye, K Muralidharan Pillai, Shamsul Kamar; and Worker’s Party’s Low Thia Khiang, Sylvia Lim Swee Lian, Chen Show Mao, Pritam Singh, Muhamad Faisal Abdul Manap. Among them Leong, Lye, Pillai, Kamar from PAP are participating for the first time.
- PAP’s Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Ang Wei Neng, Desmond Lee, Rahayu Mahzam and Tan Wu Meng; and Singaporeans First’s David Foo, Tan Peng Ann, Wong Soon Hong, Wong Chee Wai and Sakdeu Singh will contend for the five seats of the Jurong GRC. Mahzam and Meng from PAP and Foo, Ann, Hong, Wai, Singh from Singaporeans First are the first–timer candidates in the election.
- From Marine Parade GRC with 5 seats, PAP’s Goh Chok Tong, Tan Chuan-Jin, Fatimah Lateef, Seah Kian Peng, Edwin Tong and Worker’s Party’s Yee Jenn Jong, He Ting Ru, Terence Tan Li-Chern, Dylan Ng Foo Eng, Firuz Khan will be participating the general elections 2015. Ru, Chern, Eng and Khan are among the first-time electoral candidates.
- Nee Soon GRC (five seats) will have PAP members K Shanmugam, Louis Ng, Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim, Lee Bee Wah and Henry Kwek; and Worker’s Party members Luke Koh Tiong Yee, Ron Tan Jun Yen, (Kenneth) Foo Seck Guan, Cheryl Loh Xiu Wen and Gurmit Singh as contenders. Kwek and Ng from PAP and Yee, Yen, Guan, Wen and Singh from Worker’s Party are the first time candidate for elections.
- Sembawang GRC with five seats will have PAP’s Khaw Boon Wan, Amrin Amin, Ong Ye Kung, Vikram Nair and Lim Wee Kiak; and National Solidarity Party’s Spencer Ng, Kevryn Lim, Abdul Rasheed, Eugene Yeo and Yadzeth Haris as representatives. Amin from PAP and Lim, Rashid, Yeo and Haris from National Solidarity Party will be the first-time participants in the Singapore general elections 2015.
- Heng Swee Keat, Masagos Zulkifli, Baey Yam Keng, Desmond Choo and Cheng Li Hui from PAP, and Lim Tean, Sebastian Teo, Nor Leila Mardiiiah, Reno Fong and Choong Hon Heng from the National Solidarity Party are running for the Tampines GRC's five seats. Hui from PAP and Tean, Mardiiiah and Heng from National Solidarity Party are the first-timers.
- Tanjong Pagar with five seats will be contested by PAP’s Chan Chun Sing, Indranee Rajah, Joan Pereira, Melvin Yong and Dr Chia Shi-Lu.
- Ang Mo Kio GRC with six seats will be contested by PAP’s Lee Hsien Loong, Intan Mokhtar, Koh Poh Koon, Gan Thian Poh, Ang Hin Kee and Darryl David; and Reform Party’s M Ravi, Osman Sulaiman, Roy Ngerng, Gilbert Goh, Jesse Loo and Siva Chandran. Of the group, David from PAP and Sulaiman, Ngerng, Loo and Chandran will be participating for the first time in the general elections.
- For the Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC, PAP’s Teo Chee Hean, Teo Ser Luck, Zainal Sapari, Janil Puthucheary, Ng Chee Meng and Sun Xueling; and Singapore Democratic Alliance’s Desmond Lim, Arthero Lim, Harminder Pal Singh, Ong Teik Seng, Sunny Wong Way Weng and Abu Mohamed are running for the six seats. Among them, Meng and Xueling from PAP and Teik, Seng, Weng and Mohamed from Singapore Democratic Alliance will be the first-timers.
