The final installment of the Harry Potter franchise has woven its spell over moviegoers and has broken box office record sales worldwide. Since its opening day, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2" has earned $43.6 million internationally according to studio estimates. It is set to beat "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" as the biggest global box office opening of all time.

The earlier Potter film opened to $236 million globally in 2009. "Deathly Hollows" earned 49 percent higher than "The Half Blood Prince" and 82 percent higher than "Deathly Hollows: Part 1".

The penultimate chapter of J.K. Rowling's saga about the Boy Who Lived also broke box office records in Australia with $7,029,487 on opening day. It beat previous record holder Lord of the Rings: Return of the King who earned $5,289,477. "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2" opened on 753 screens also another Aussie record.

The release of the film in 3D with the higher ticket prices has translated to a bigger box office take. The last Potter film is being tipped as the first in the franchise to earn more than $1 billion in the worldwide box office sales. The first Potter film, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, was the closest with an overall box office take of $974,733,550.

Australia was one of the first in the world to see the latest Harry Potter film with a midnight screening at 12.01 am local time on Wednesday, July 13. It immediately broke opening day figures with $7 million just 24 hours after opening.

"We're thrilled to see this powerful response from such a broad range of moviegoers. These incredible results are a testament to the incredible achievement of the filmmakers, cast, and, of course, J.K. Rowling, and should ensure the film series' place in history for years to come," Joel Pearlman, Roadshow Films managing director said.
