Five Best Movies of Matthew McConaughey Other Than ‘Dallas Buyers Club’
Matthew McConaughey, who celebrates his 45th birthday on Nov 4, 2014; made several Leonardo DiCaprio fans angry after winning the Academy Award for Best Actor in 2013. However, there was nobody who had any doubt about his capabilities as an actor. McConaughey proved his potential in several other films before even if he was not the main lead in the film. His last film "Interstellar" had its premiere on Oct 26. It will be released in North America on Nov 5 and in the UK on Nov 7. Here are his five best films other than "Dallas Buyers Club" which won him his first Oscar.
The Wolf of Wall Street (2013)
McConaughey was also a part of the film which gave the Oscar nomination for DiCaprio. Even though he was not the main lead in the film, he left an impression with a cameo. Martin Scorsese directed this black comedy where McConaughey played Mark Hanna, the company executive who takes DiCaprio under his wings during the early days of his career. The best part was when McConaughey teaches DiCaprio a unique form of beat-boxing by beating his chest. According to reports, McConaughey also uses it in real life where he does it for relaxation between scenes.
Mud (2012)
This 2012 thriller-drama was directed by Jeff Nichols. McConaughey plays Mud in the film which competed for the Palme d'Or at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival. McConaughey's character is hiding in an island. He promises to give his boat to a couple of teenagers who have to bring food for him. Mud is apparently waiting for his girlfriend in the island. The film was highly acclaimed by critics. McConaughey's performance was considered to be the strong backbone of the film.
How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days (2003)
Contrary to popular notion, McConaughey also acted in more light-hearted movies which became successful. One of the most successful of those was this 2003 romantic comedy directed by Donald Petrie. Kate Hudson plays the romantic interest of McConaughey in the film. McConaughey's plays an advertising executive who is a playboy. He bets that he can make any girl fall in love with him in 10 days. Hudson, on the contrary, is supposed to write an article for a magazine on "How to Lose a Guy in 10 days."
The Wedding Planner (2001)
Adam Shankman directed this romantic comedy which had Jennifer Lopez with McConaughey. Lopez is a successful supplier of "romance and glamour." She is aware of all the rules and tricks. However, she forgets all of them and falls in love with the groom of a wedding she is planning for. McConaughey plays the groom.
A Time to Kill (1996)
This 1996 drama was based on a novel by John Grisham. Joel Schumacher, the one who earlier made "Batman Forever" in 1995, directed the movie. In addition to McConaughey, the movie also had a strong star cast with Sandra Bullock, Kevin Spacey and Samuel L. Jackson. The movie is about the rape of a young girl whose father gets murdered after the rapists are arrested. The movie was a huge success at the U.S. box office.
