Five-Day Egyptian Holiday Leaves Woman With Rare Kidney Condition
Nicole Collings, 23, is thankful to have survived after getting hit by a serious illness that left her hospitalized. Reportedly, the woman contracted a rare kidney infection while holidaying in an Egyptian hotel.
Collings had just returned to her home in the UK from her dream holiday in Sharm el Sheikh, Egypt. However, she was immediately rushed to the hospital following her illness. The doctors suspected that the pain was due to appendicitis, therefore, they ended up removing the vestigial organ from her.
The blood tests conducted at the hospital revealed that Collings was actually suffering from Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (HUS). It is a syndrome caused by either E. coli or Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (TTP). The doctors realized that it had caused kidney damage and associated blood failure in Collings.
Two weeks of hospitalization and rounds of blood transfusion and emergency dialysis cured Collings. She is thankful that her illness is now under control and that she won't be requiring dialysis all her life.
However, the young lady is curious to know the reason behind her illness. In addition, she seeks answers from the hotel authorities in Egypt. During the holiday, she stayed at the five-star Siva Sharm Resort & Spa.
Collings claims that proper hygiene was not maintained within the hotel premises. According to her, the cutlery being used in the hotel was dirty, in addition to the pool area within the hotel. She further claims that the pool had murky water.
A team of lawyers is currently handling the issue by investigating into the hotel and the travel agency. In 2010, a group of people received five-figure sum from the same hotel with the help of lawyers after they suffered from severe gastric illness.
