'Five Nights at Freddy's' developer Scott Cawthon says he 'does not want to work on the new game anymore,' Steam Community reacts
"Five Nights at Freddy's" (FNaF) developer Scott Cawthon recently posted on the Steam Community page about not wanting to work on the new game he's developing. While Cawthon doesn't exactly mention the name of the particular game, it is believed to be a new instalment in the "FNaF" franchise. Naturally, members of Steam as well as other fans of the game reacted. Read on to learn more about it.
Cawthon posts an update about the game he's been working on
Cawthon wrote the post on Steam on Saturday, July 1. "For the last month or so I’ve been dropping hints about a new game; and it’s true that I’d been working on one (call it FNaF 6 if you’d like.)," his Steam post states. "But after forcing myself to keep working on it day after day, I realized something- I just don’t want to work on this."
Great Expectations = Greater Pressure
Cawthon explained that with great expectations for the next game came greater pressure to make it better than the last. However, because of the expectations, he has neglected a lot of things in his life to keep up with it.
"So, after giving this a lot of thought; I’ve decided that I’m going to stop working on it." He said he won't reveal anything else about what that game actually was. He also asked other people that worked with him to keep quiet about it. "It’s just not going to be talked about."
Clarifications
The game developer clarified that this doesn't mean he'll stop making games for good, nor is he abandoning "FNaF." He just wants to take a bit of break from it. He did say he's more interested in working on something like the Foxy Fighters from Update 2 or maybe a pizzeria tycoon game.
Cawthon's Project Update Part 2
Cawthon also posted the second part of his project update wherein he reiterated he was really the one who posted on Steam, not some troll. He added he wants to work on something more lighthearted as a way of relaxing and that it would be free.
Here are some reactions from the Steam Community members who read Cawthon's post:
"Take a well earned break. We can wait. Also, a tycoon games sounds awesome!" ceruleantear wrote.
"I'd love to see a pizzaeria tycoon!" an Arstotzkan Official posted.
"Him saying would I ever troll you guys gives it away. It's a troll," AwesomeDude said.
The "Five Nights at Freddy's" developer said that the film based on the video game is being handled by Blumhouse. He even posted a photo on Twitter of a director's chair with the name Freddy on it and a screen behind it that says Blumhouse Productions. Check out the tweet at the end of the article. Cawthon also wrote about working on a Virtual Reality (VR) title as well as finishing up the ending of his second book.
"I hope you can respect and understand my decision," he wrote. "I want to spend more time with my family, and get back to what made me enjoy making games in the first place. I’ll give you all more updates as things happen! :) As always, I appreciate your support."
