'The Flash' season 2 episode 18 recap: Childhood backstories of Barry and Zoom are revealed in 'Versus Zoom'
In “The Flash” Season 2 Episode 18, the childhood backgrounds of Zoom (Teddy Sears) and Barry (Grant Gustin) were revealed. The team attempted to open the breach after The Flash was finally faster than Zoom.
The episode started on Earth-2, featuring a young Jay or Zolomon Hunter. He witnessed his abusive father attack and kill his mother. Jay was forced to transfer to an orphanage.
Back on present day Earth-1, Barry was attempting to return home using the Tacheon enhancer. Barry was finally faster than Zoom and the team was trying to figure out how to open the breach. Dr. Wells (Tom Cavanagh), however, did not want to open the breach.
Iris left to go on a date with her editor. Later on, it was revealed that she cancelled her date because she could not ignore the fact that she was destined to be with Barry.
Meanwhile, Barry and Cisco (Carlos Valdes) were able to find the breach using the most residual energy. Wells subsequently arrived and gave Cisco his goggles. It was enough to acquire sufficient energy to channel and open the breach successfully. Although the breach was about to open, Cisco backed out.
Back at STAR Labs, Wells was enhancing a minor version of the Tacheon enhancer. The team continued to work on opening the breach at the hospital. Immediately, Zoom came out of the breach and chased Barry through the city. Barry was able to lead him to STAR labs with the other members of the team prepared for his arrival.
The team prepared a course to distract Zoom while he chases Barry inside STAR. Barry told Zoom that he did not have to lie to them and that they would have done everything to save his life. He told Barry that they are not very different and that Barry could have just become like him after his mother died. Subsequently, Barry broke the boot off Zoom’s leg and he disappeared into the city.
When the team went to the Wests’ house, the place was empty and Wally (Keiynan Lonsdale) was missing. Zoom left a note telling The Flash to exchange his speed for Wally. Meanwhile, Wally was held captive beside the man in the iron mask.
The Flash agreed to Zoom’s terms, and just when everything at STAR was turning into a frenzy, Caitlin (Danielle Panabaker) asked Zoom to stop attacking The Flash. He did but took Caitlin with him.
