The flip phone is back, and behind its return is not Google's Motorola which was famous for its Razr line of flip phones, but South Korean tech giant Samsung.

Samsung China just unveiled the SCH-W789 Hennessy, its first foray into flip phones with a twist. The Android-power model has two touchscreens.

The first 3.3-inch display is on the outside, featuring 320x480 pixel screen, and upon flipping the phone open, a second display with identical specs, plus a traditional numeric keypad is seen.

The phone, which is powered by 1.2GHz quad-core processor with 1GB of RAM and a 5-megapixel shooter, runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean software. It will but sold in China and would not likely be seen in Europe, according to CNET.

Reactions to the announcement on GSM Arena indicate that the flip phone still has fans.

Denise wrote, "There is nothing more sexy than flipflop phone."

But for MdN, who admits missing his Motorola flip phones and finds the Hennessy interesting, its having a touchscreen outside makes it different from the old flip phones which protected the inside screen when the phone was closed and there is no need to unlock the display. All the phone owners need to do is flip it open or close.

An anonymous commenter asked that the phone be made available in Indonesia and he will surely buy the unit. "I'm never a fan of full touchscreen phones. The only reason I'm currently using full touchscreen phone is because there's no alternative in the market. So this phone is like breathing fresh air to me," Anonymous said.
