Since Wednesday morning, Brisbane City Council’s contact center received 10,033 calls from residents, which included a high number of reports of floodwater inundation to properties throughout the city.

There are around 700 people are now staying at the evacuation center at the RNA Showgrounds, Bowen Hills, while 325 people have self evacuated to the center at QEII, Nathan. These centers can accommodate another 2,600 people if required.

These evacuation centers are for those who wish to voluntarily evacuate and cannot be accommodated with family or friends. No forced evacuations have occurred at this time. Residents are advised to bring the following with them if they choose to stay at the evacuation center: pillows and sheets, any medication, important documents such as insurance papers and spare clothing.

Significant flooding has also occurred in areas of South East Queensland including Ipswich, Caboolture and Brisbane. In Ipswich alone, the rising flood waters are expected to damage an additional 4,000 properties.
