In 2012, the police authorities in Tallahassee, Florida, received a complaint of sexual assault against Florida State Seminoles quarterback Jameis Winston.

The complaint was filed on Dec. 7, 2012. The alleged victim stated that physical force was used to commit the said offense. It was reported that there were some drinking sessions on the day that the alleged offense took place. The woman who filed the complaint stated the motive as pure sexual gratification.

However, there were no official arraignments filed.

"The case is active and open," said Officer David Northway of Tallahassee Police Department. "The victim is working with the State Attorney's Office," Northway added.

Winston's lawyer, Tim Jansen, denied the allegations.

In February, Jansen has stated that they were told by the Tallahassee Police Department that the case had been closed. "I have spoken to the police officer, and he said that the case had been closed, I don't think there is any reason to re-open it," he said.

"We have remained cooperative with the police authorities, and we feel hopeful that we will get a fast resolution in favor of Mr Winston," said Jansen on Wednesday.

As with Winston's athletic career, Florida State has released a statement that the status of star quarterback has not changed.

"We are aware of the investigation that the Tallahassee Police Department a year ago," said the school in a statement. "We cannot give comments at this time due to the fact that the investigation remains active and we are just looking forward to the quick resolution of the problem."

We are just puzzled why this news came about now. Is it a tactic to ruin Winston's candidacy for the Heisman trophy? The Heisman Memorial Trophy Award is given to the most outstanding player in college football in the U.S. We all know he is a front runner for the award. Well, according to a survey of Heisman voters, the alleged offense will not affect Winston's position for the award.

Winston was known as the best dual-threat quarterback recruit in the country, according to Rivals.com. He had amazing performances for the Seminoles, and led Florida State to great victories against Clemson and Miami. There were rumours that Winston might just be the number 1 overall National Football League's (NFL) draft pick when he becomes qualified in 2015.
