After a long and successful career in sports, some athletes may ponder on the best time for them to hang up their gloves for good. Undefeated fighter Floyd Mayweather has said in a statement that he sometimes think that he is knocking on the door of ending his glittering career as a professional boxer.

Mayweather, who has dedicated his life in the sport of boxing, told Mlive.com that he finds himself contemplating on stepping away from boxing ring because he is not getting any younger. Mayweather turned 37 in February. He inked a six-fight contract with Showtime in 2013. His fourth fight under Showtime is the rematch against Marcos Maidana. By the time that his contract with Showtime expires, he will be 39 years old, Mayweather lamented.

"I'm knocking at that door." According to Mayweather, there are days when he feels he could fulfil all six fights in his Showtime contract, but there are also those days when he feels he can't do it.

"It's really hard to tell right now."

"Some days, I feel like I will go to the six fights, some days, I say I don't know."

Mayweather added that his main concentration right now is the rematch with the Argentine boxer. The two are set to clash on Sept. 13 at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Earlier in May and prior his first match with Maidana, Mayweather has also dropped hints on retirement. Do you think the unbeaten boxer is earnestly considering hanging up his gloves for good?

TMZ Sports obtained a clip from Mayweather's interview with Fox Sports radio show "The Vegas Take" 670AM. The Grand Rapids native boxer said that people believe the things because they want to and that's something that he can't control. He said that the criticisms that he get from people were influenced by the brilliant things he was able to accomplish in his career.

"When you get to this level, I mean, people are going to take shots at you in every way possible."
