Floyd Mayweather Jr. was never in real trouble in his recent fight against Marcos Maidana of Argentina last Sept. 13, 2014— except for late in the third round of that bout when he got tagged by a right-handed power shot by Maidana.

“He hurt me with that shot,” Mayweather’s rare admission came in a segment of Showtime’s All Access: Mayweather vs. Maidana 2 Epilogue.

Floyd Mayweather is a known brash and proud fighter and is not really known for admitting to his mistakes inside the ring. Maidana’s power shot came late in the round and the bell saved Mayweather from further advances from Maidana in that particular round in the fight held at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada in the United States of America (USA).

The Argentine failed to capitalise on the great shot however as he couldn't track Floyd Mayweather the rest of the way and the American cruised to the victory. Mayweather won via majority decision with two judges scoring the bout 116-111 and another judge logging in, 115-112.

Mayweather, who remained undefeated in 47 professional fights, won that championship bout against Maidana hauling in the World Boxing Council (WBC) welterweight and light middleweight titles and the World Boxing Association (WBA) super world welterweight title.

Maidana dropped to 35-5-0 in 40 career bouts but most importantly, he lost the final chance to convince the boxing world that he belongs in the upper echelon of the sport.

According to Floyd Mayweather, he is set to retire from the sport in 2015 which means that he has two fights left in his career. One of these fights could come against Manny Pacquiao of the Philippines as the superfight between the world number one and two best pound-for-pound boxers is being discussed by both parties.

Would Maidana have knocked down or out Mayweather if he had enough time in the third round? Would Mayweather have survived the bout if the power shot came from a Pacquiao left haymaker?
