Floyd Mayweather- Amir Khan Bout Still Possible
The bout between Floyd Mayweather and Amir Khan is still possible.
Richard Schaefer, who is currently the chief executive officer of Golden Boy Promotions, is hopeful that he can set up a fight between Mayweather and Khan.
Schaefer thinks that the bout will turn in great revenues with Khan's huge fan base in Britain flying over to the U.S. to witness the bout if it really get finalised, like what happened during Mayweather's fight against Saul "Canelo" Alvarez and Robert "The Ghost" Guerrero". Both Alvarez and Guerrero managed to fly in their fans to the U.S., which in turn, brought in incredible profits.
Contrary to what other boxing enthusiasts think, Schaefer believes that the Mayweather-Khan fight is not a mismatch. "Mayweather is very fast," Schaefer told Ring TV. "He has very fast hands, but Amir Khan's hands and hand speed is quicker than Floyd Mayweather Jr.," he added. "Khan's footwork is also exceptional, so I would say in the speed category, Khan is faster than Mayweather," said Schaefer. "We will see if that fight can happen," he said.
Speed in boxing is certainly a plus factor. Everyone knows that speed in boxing really kills. A lot of great boxers have it such as Muhammad Ali, Ray Leonard, Mike Tyson, Floyd Mayweather, Manny Pacquaio, and more. A boxer who can land a punch to his opponent is one of the advantages in the sport of boxing. Speed can make a difference. A split-second can make all the difference.
If Amir Khan has the speed, like what Schaefer claims, would it be enough to knock Mayweather down? Khan has to be smart. His swiftness in the boxing ring would not be enough to defeat the best pound-for-pound boxer.
Is Amir Khan really a viable challenger for Floyd Mayweather? Maybe it would be better to match Mayweather to any undefeated fighters rather than Khan, who does not have a large fan base in the U.S. Maybe this fight only makes sense if it happens in the UK. They could probably pack an entire stadium full of Brits who want to witness Mayweather fight.
