Floyd Mayweather Jr. Asked Rapper-Friend To Stop Before Completing Murder-Suicide
Boxing's pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr. spoke with Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) on his knowledge of the murder-suicide of rapper Earl Hayes and said that he talked with his friend through Facetime just moments before the rapper took the life of his wife and his own. The Los Angeles Times reports that the undefeated champion was cooperative with authorities and that a source on condition of anonymity revealed that the boxer at one point pleaded with Hayes to stop with his plan to commit suicide.
Mayweather Jr. was reportedly on Facetime with his pal Monday morning at around 7 a.m. when his friend went out of view and he heard gunshots ranging from 10 to 12 shots. Hayes then came back and talked with his best friend before taking his own life. Police responding to the scene in the posh La Brea Park responded after a telephone call complained of gunshots heard in the vicinity. When the authorities arrived at the area, they heard more gunshots and saw the lifeless bodies of a man and women presumably Hayes and his wife, Stephanie Moseley, a 30-year-old dancer.
"Floyd confirmed the story first reported on TMZ ... that he was on FaceTime Monday morning with Hayes when the rapper walked away from the phone, into the bathroom and pumped multiple bullets into his wife, Stephanie Moseley," TMZ said in its article on Mayweather's involvement with the shooting.
Early reports speculate that Hayes gunned down his lover in their bathtub because he believed Moseley was cheating on him. Mayweather Jr. also said that he is aware of his friend's doubts of his wife's fidelity and that the deceased rapper talked to him one last time to say his farewells. The famous boxer has already been seen publicly since the incident by appearing on consecutive nights at Staples Centre. The reigning welterweight world champion was seated courtside with his current girlfriend, Liza Hernandez during the Los Angeles Lakers and Sacramento Kings game. Mayweather Jr. has yet to comment officially to confirm the reports of news outlets as investigations are still being kept under wraps due to the sensitive nature of the incident.
