Floyd Mayweather Jr. Blasts Oscar De La Hoya, Calls Him ‘Disloyal’ And ‘A Snake’
Mayweather also called De La Hoya 'a piece of s--t"
Floyd Mayweather Jr. is known for his defensive skills and boxing savvy inside the ring. In a recent tirade against former boxing promotions partner Oscar De La Hoya, the American went on the offensive calling De La Hoya “disloyal”, “a snake”, and “a piece of s—t” among other scathing and negative things.
Talking with fighthype.com, Mayweather Jr., who is considered the best pound-for-pound boxer today, had a few choice words for De La Hoya, also a former boxing champion.
“Oscar De La Hoya has always been disloyal; very disloyal. He was very disloyal to Richard Schaefer. Richard Schaefer built that company from the ground up. I don't have anything against Eric Gomez at all, but De La Hoya is a piece of s—t,” Mayweather Jr. was quoted in the article from the popular boxing website.
Like the undefeated American’s quick jabs and effective hooks, Mayweather Jr. didn’t stop there:
“Oscar is a snake! Stephen Espinoza, he's been more than fair. It gets no bigger than Showtime. What I love so much about Showtime is that we are the only side. Wherever Mayweather goes, it's showtime, period!” Mayweather Jr. also added when asked on the development that Canelo Alvarez has transferred to HBO, a move that was reportedly masterminded by De La Hoya.
To note, Alvarez officially jumped ship from Showtime to HBO Sports early October after signing an exclusive 3-year deal with the latter. The move sent shockwaves to both camps— positive for HBO and negative for Showtime— as Alvarez is one of the rising stars in boxing. Alvarez now is in the media giant that also features the likes of Manny Pacquiao, Miguel Cotto and Timothy Bradley among many others.
Mayweather Jr. vs. Alvarez under Showtime on Sept. 9, 2014 became the all-time highest pay-per-view fight in the history of the sport with 2.2 million buys. That was one of the fights during the partnership between De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions and Mayweather Promotions, which started way back in 2007 the year the pair fought for the World Boxing Council (WBC) world light middleweight title.
For his part, De La Hoya wouldn’t let Mayweather Jr’s disrespectful talk pass countering with his own strong words via boxingscene.com saying that he could have won against Mayweather Jr. in their 2007 bout.
“It was a good close fight where the victory could have been given to me. One of the judges, in the final round, gave the round to Mayweather and that is why he won. The other two judges gave it to me. If I had been 28-years-old I would have won easy, knocked him out- but obviously age does not forgive anyone.” De La Hoya said of the fight, which Mayweather won via split decision, 116-112, 115-113 and 113-115.
Mayweather appears to be fighting everyone these days-- off the ring too. First. he blasted his own father, Mayweather Sr. for saying that his son will fight Manny Pacquiao in 2015. Then, he slammed Pacquiao too accusing the Filipino of using his name to sell the Chris Algieri fight in November. Now, he got his sights on the boxing legend, Oscar De La Hoya.
