Roger Mayweather, who is known during his boxing heyday as the Black Mamba, believed Great Britain's top welterweight Amir Khan will give Floyd Mayweather Jr. a 'better fight' than Argentine slugger Marcos Maidana, the veteran trainer said in an interview with Hustle Boss.

Mayweather believed Khan does not deserve a shot at his nephew, though his huge following in the United Kingdom made him a better option "businesswise" for the reigning pound-for-pound champion.

"I think Amir Khan is a bigger fight. You got to have a guy that can stand up in order to get that television, to get television to watch it," Roger said to Hustleboss.

"Not really, not really but he's the only guy who really has a name where you could put it on HBO (obviously he means Showtime). For the major networks you gotta have a guy that can stand up (be popular), get that television (viewer) to watch," Mayweather said when asked if the Briton is worthy of facing the universally recognized pound-for-pound king.

No Hitman in Khan

SB Nation Boxing writer Kory Kitchen believed Roger Mayweather's recent statement only showed what's on the mind of the entire Money Team camp. Khan might not be as big drawer and puncher as Ricky Hatton at his prime, but his quickness and skills set would be surely interesting enough to make him the frontrunner for the Money May showdown.

"So Roger is giving the same argument that nearly everyone else is when it comes to Khan possibly getting the opportunity to fight Mayweather: he will bring in more viewers. Of course, that is highly debatable because Khan, after three losses (two by knockout), is not any where near the folk hero that Ricky Hatton was over six years ago when he came to Las Vegas to fight Floyd. Hatton was a legit star and there were some who thought his pressure style and body punching could present some difficulty for the slick Mayweather," via SB Nation.

"In Khan's defense, he would be the fastest guy that Floyd has fought in quite sometime. I'm guessing that would be one of the big angles to play up if he is indeed the Chosen One," the analyst added.

Mayweather will return in the ring in May 3rd at MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas, Nevada, making it his third of his six-fight deal with Showtime Boxing.
