Floyd Mayweather Sr. Says Manny Pacquiao Can’t Hurt Floyd Jr.
Parents instinctively favour their own offspring. Recently, Floyd Mayweather Sr. has voiced his comments on Manny Pacquiao's performance against previously undefeated Chris Algieri. The American boxing trainer said he wasn't really impressed with Pacquiao's recent victory. Floyd Sr. also talked about the potential future fight between his undefeated son and the Filipino boxing icon and said that Pacquiao couldn't really hurt Floyd Jr.
In an interview with On The Ropes Boxing, Floyd Sr. continued his assault on Pacquiao and his trainer Freddie Roach. Floyd Sr. was asked about his thoughts on Pacquiao's last fight and the Filipino's potential showdown against Floyd Jr.
Floyd Sr. said he didn't really watch the fight. He said he has only been told that Algieri got knocked down a few times, but it doesn't mean that Pacquiao is a better fighter now. He bragged about Floyd Sr., who he said has knocked down Diego Corrales six times.
"It's only obvious that if they (Floyd Jr. and Pacquiao) fight, I'm on my son's side so there's no other way to look at that but one way," Floyd Sr. said. "I wouldn't be looking his way just to be looking, but whatever my son said about it, I don't believe Pacquiao can whoop him anyways, simple as that."
Meanwhile, Roach remains optimistic that the fight between Pacquiao and Floyd Jr. will happen in 2015, Boxing News Online reported. Pacquiao wants it, and according to Al Haymon's right-hand Sam Watson, Floyd Jr. also wants the fight real bad.
Roach said that he sat down with Bob Arum of Top Rank and Les Moonves of CBS, which is the parent company of Showtime. Roach said that if Arum and Moonves do what they're supposed to do, then the fight will happen.
The Hall of Fame trainer said that he is already going the extra mile just to make the fight come to fruition. Roach said that the meeting between Arum and Moonves went well. He said it has been done with Lennox Lewis and Mike Tyson before so he knows that the big bosses can definitely deliver the fighters so the fans all over the world will get to witness the greatest boxing event in the current generation.
