‘The Foreigner’ adds to the London terrorist attack panic; Stunt severely criticised
It was a moment that left Londoners terrified and later angry. With London on terror alert, a stunt for the Jackie Chan film “The Foreigner,” which blew up an iconic double-decker bus on London’s Lambeth Bridge, did not go down well with a lot of people even after warning signs and notices regarding the stunt were circulated. The film is currently in production in London.
According to the ABC, the bus was travelling over the Lambeth Bridge when it suddenly burst into flames. It sparked instant panic and later anger on social media. Although authorities quickly took to Twitter to reassure angry people about the explosion being only a stunt, not everybody is on Twitter.

“Anyone worried about the exploding bus on Lambeth Bridge just now? It was for a movie,” tweeted local MP Nigel Huddleston.

The film’s producers had posted a warning on Twitter regarding the bus explosion beforehand, saying, “The explosion is controlled and operated by our special effects team.” It assured all precautions were being taken for ensuring the safety of people in the area, reports Sky News. The film is being directed by Martin Campbell and stars Jackie Chan and Pierce Brosnan.
The Port of London Authority confirmed the bridge had been closed for filming. However, many questioned the stunt as it reminded them of the 2005 London Bombings. Terrorists attacked the public transport system and killed about 52 people.
Security was stepped up after the Paris terrorist attacks across Britain. ISIS had issued threats that they would soon be attacking UK and the West after the Paris bombings. Scotland Yard chief Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe had announced the inclusion of 600 trained marksmen in the Metropolitan Police to the existing 2,200.
Chris Phillips, who formerly lead the National Counter Terrorism Security Office, had warned that London was not the only target in the UK. He also named Portsmouth and Bristol as possible terror targets.
