Former Guns N' Roses Member Concerned About Scott Weiland's Dispute With Stone Temple Pilots
Former Guns N' Roses bassist Duff McKagan hopes ex-Stone Temple Pilots vocalist Scott Weiland "pulls it together". Weiland also used to be the lead singer for McKagan and Slash's supergroup band, Velvet Revolver. The two had a public spat with the troubled singer and kicked him out of the band in 2008.
"You could kind of see it coming, I suppose. It's a sad situation any way you look at it. That guy...You hope (Weiland) pulls it together; I shared enough good times with that guy that I wish him nothing but the best," he said.
Weiland became the vocalist for Velvet Revolver when Stone Temple Pilots disbanded in 2003. Things had been going on smoothly for the band for the next few years having world tours and as festival headliners. Unfortunately, Weiland got back to his old ways, which affected the band's career when their Australian tour was cancelled in 2008. It was rumoured that Slash and McKagan fired Weiland but it was also at that time that he reunited with Stone Temple Pilots.
"It was a great experience until near the end. I think we made some great music - and I actually prefer our second album to our first - and I don't hold any resentment towards any of the guys in the band. I really wish them all the best," Weiland said.
From then on, Velvet Revolver has been looking for Weiland's replacement declaring that the band is on an indefinite hiatus. In a recent interview with McKagan in Billboard.com, he said that "Velvet Revolver is not a dead issue".
Moreover, he also admitted in a 2011 interview with Huffington Post that the band doesn't want to do anything with Weiland anymore but that he "love that guy" and feels sorry for him.
Meanwhile, Weiland countersued Stone Temple Pilots stopping the group to use the name of the band without him in the line-up. The group was the first to sue their ex-vocalist for sabotaging their career. They claim that Weiland's poor performance, late arrivals and addiction struggles have been the reasons why they had to kick him out from Stone Temple Pilots. They hired Linkin Park's Chester Bennington to become the band's new lead singer in May of this year.
