Former NRL player Anthony Watts had bitten an opponent's penis during a game, according to an allegation. Gold Coast Rugby League officials are set to investigate the report that the 26-year-old bit a Bilambil Jets player while he was playing for Tugun Seahawks in a Bycroft Cup preliminary final on Sunday.

The unnamed Bilambil player reported the incident to the officials, claiming that Watts pulled down his shorts and bit his private part after a first-half melee at Boyd Street involving several players from both teams.

The melee was apparently also started by Watts when he pushed a Bilambil player.

According to news.com.au, the entire incident was placed on report in the 39th minute by the referee, although the alleged biting victim had decided not to pursue to complaint with league officials.

The GCRL will still review the footage of the incident, however. They would lay charges against Watts if there's sufficient evidence found, which could lead to his suspension ahead of the grand final between Tugun and Southport on Sunday.

"The player hasn't wanted to follow through with the allegation but the league will be reviewing the incident," a spokesman for the league told the news Web site. "The league's executive officials will have further discussions and follow the correct procedure."

The Queensland Rugby League, which governs GCRL, could also be consulted during the review.

Tugun won the game on Sunday at 31-10, qualifying them for them grand final.

Watts, a former North Queensland Cowboy and Sydney Rooster, had quit the NRL after his father's death in 2012. He had hoped to make it back to the league, but has abandoned his hopes of playing after he joined the Finks motorcycle club, a biker gang that is under investigation for various crimes.

"I've given up on trying to make it back (to the NRL) now," he told The Sunday Mail in June. "With all the stuff that's happened, no NRL club is going to touch me now."

This isn't the first time Watts has been involved in an assault allegation. He reportedly punched his girlfriend in the face and hit her multiple times in the back in 2011.
