Former Pantera Singer Calls Metallica’s ‘Load’ ‘A Terrible Record’
Phil Anselmo has been pretty vocal about how he feels about Metallica and the band's record "Load." This time he calls it a "terrible" album.
Down singer and ex-Pantera frontman Phil Anselmo is featured in the Sept. 2014 issue of "Metal Hammer."
In the issue, he is featured in the 'Discs of Doom'. In this, artists are asked about the albums that made an impact on them as well as albums that never should have been out in the market.
Anselmo talked about "Load" and commented that it should have been a part of a side project.
"I would have to say 'Load' by Metallica. I mean, it's a terrible record, man. I just don't get it. If you're gonna put out a record like that, just do a f-ing side project or something, ya know?" Anselmo commented via Ultimate Classic Rock.
This is not the first time Anselmo talked against Metallica and "Load."
Back in 2003, he stated that he had challenged Metallica for duel (concert).
"I think that was when 'Load' was out, and it kind of shocked everybody - everybody was freaked out. What they do is what they do, that's fine, but I'll never forget James (Hetfield) and Lars (Ulrich) both saying that being in heavy metal we should all stick together. From what I've seen, touring with bands like HOLE, LIMP BIZKIT and LINKIN PARK and bands like that, that's not doing anything for heavy metal. Heavy metal lies in the underground and if they're worried about... why in the hell would METALLICA be worried about ticket sales?"
Lars Ulrich, Metallica's drummer said that Anselmo has a tendency to talk a lot.
On Aug. 4, 2003, Blabbermouth.net reported Phil mentioning that Pantera "would crush 'em."
However, things became better when Down and Metallica toured together in 2008.
