Former Rome Mayor To Officiate George Clooney's Wedding To Amal Alamuddin

Hollywood's perpetual bachelor is set to change his marital status this weekend and millions of hearts around the world will break. George Clooney's wedding to Amal Alamuddin is impending and while women will be grieving, this is generally perceived to be a joyful occasion. The wedding is set to take place in Italy and Rome's former Mayor, Walter Veltroni is reportedly officiating the ceremony.

Clooney, who will be donning Armani threads during his wedding, is good friend of Veltroni. Both have a history of humanitarian work in Darfur. Apart from politics and his humanitarian work, Veltroni is also a writer. According to the Daily Mail, he wrote the preface to Obama's book "The Audacity of Hope" when it was released in Italy.

Clooney and Italian designer Giorgio Armani also go way back with the actor having work Armani suits on various red carpet appearances. Us Weekly dropped other details about the wedding stating that the guest list is very limited and only approximately 60 friends and family have made the cut. It is still unclear if the anticipated meeting will take place between Brad Pitt and ex-wife Jennifer Aniston will actually take place. Some of Clooney's other Ocean's Eleven co-stars might be in attendance and at least one supermodel will grace the event. Cindy Crawford who is married to Clooney's best friend and business partner Rande Gerber will be in attendance.

There will be a dinner at the Hotel Cipriani and the ceremony is set to take place on Sept. 27 at 11:00 in the morning. The ceremony itself will be held at the Aman Canal Grande Hotel in Venice, the Italian city chosen for the nuptials. Clooney actually own a home in Lake Como that was initially pegged to be a possible location for the wedding, but the Hollywood star decided against it. He opted to move the wedding to Venice in order to preserve the privacy of the Lake Como neighbourhood where he stays.

Keeping with the Italian theme, Andrea Bocelli is expected to perform at the wedding. While the groom is keeping things very Italian, the U.K. based bride is expected to be going for an Alexander McQueen wedding dress since she had been spotted in the designer's offices in London.
