Fortescue Metals Group Ltd (ASX: FMG) has been cleared on 18 charges brought against the company and its subsidiary company, The Pilbara Infrastructure (TPI) by the WorkSafe WA.

Magistrate Joe Randazzo of the Magistrates Court of Western Australia ruled that all 18 charges be dismissed. The charges relate to the impact of Cyclone George on Rail Camp 1.

WorkSafe WA charged eight different companies, including Fortescue, with failing to provide a safe workplace.

In a statement released today Fortescue said it is pleased with the Magistrate’s decision to dismiss the charges.

“This decision by no means closes Fortescue’s involvement or response to Cyclone George.

“The devastation caused by Cyclone George and its effect on our employees, our contractors’ employees and their families will be forever remembered within Fortescue.”
