Four Vancouver Officers Hit by BMW at Restaurant
A 30-year-old woman drove her BMW through a restaurant in Vancouver on Sunday night. Four police officers, who were having dinner at the Fatburger fast food joint, got injured when they got hit by crash debris and the car itself.
It has been reported that one of the officers had difficulty breathing after the accident. Brian Montague, the spokesman of the police department, informed that the officers suffered from injuries like broken bones and chest pain.
Fortunately, even though the officers were seriously injured, they did not suffer from any life-threatening conditions. They were taken to a nearby hospital after the accident.
According to an eye witness, the woman moved off the road at around 8 pm and went on to the sidewalk. Then she crashed the front part of the restaurant building and broke the establishment's front windows, the Vancouver Police Department reports.
The police also reported that the woman did not appear impaired either. Nevertheless, they are going to investigate every possibility which includes distracted driving. And although she was apparently uninjured, she was taken to a hospital as a precautionary measure.
The department is in the process of informing the families of the officers, who have been in service ranging from 1 to 10 years. The VPD asked the public through Twitter to pray for the officers.
Meera Bains of CBC also tweeted that the Denman Street was blocked off by multiple ambulances and police cars. The collision investigation department officers remained on scene and are trying to find out the reason behind the accident. They are encouraging witnesses to approach any officer or call them at 604-717-3321.
Update: Vancouver police are still in the process of finding out how the woman missed the turn. Alcohol and speed have already been rules out as causes of the accident.
